A file of correspondence, reports, and press material concerning trade unions in East Germany. The documents discuss the revelation that the East German Free German Trade Union Federation (F.D.G.B.) has acquired a "holiday ship" to be used to carry workers on cruises around Europe. The documents also contain a report produced by the British Military Government in West Berlin on labour rights and trade unionism in East Germany, sourced from interviews with over 300 refugees that had fled to West Berlin from East Germany. This report concludes that East German strikes involving "more than a handful of people" are "very much the exception", and that "trade union, party, and works officials usually deal sympathetically with complaints and do what they can to help". Other documents include a series of articles from the East German press reporting on relations between the F.D.G.B. and various foreign trade unions.
