Northern (N): Hungary (NH). Political Relations: Greece

1962

A file of correspondence concerning relations between Hungary and Greece. The correspondence covers a dispute between the two governments, following a statement by the Greek Minister of Justice in which he referred to the "Beloyannis School of espionage in Budapest". The Hungarian legation in Greece released a statement arguing that the Beloyannis School was attended by children of Greek nationality, that lessons were taught in Greek, and that it was subsidised by the People's Republic of Hungary. The Hungarian legation was criticised in the press for releasing their statement for publication rather than addressing a protest to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Hungarian chargé d'affaires was summoned to the ministry for a talk on diplomatic protocol.
